How Sanofi Accelerated their Formulations Development Cycle

White Paper: Predicting Excipient Properties with BIOVIA Materials Studio

Every formulated product is a delicate balance of ingredients which have been painstakingly designed to achieve a desired effect. Often, this effect can be oxymoronic: materials that are both strong yet soft, detergents that quickly remove dirt yet are gentle on skin, or pills that do not crumble yet readily dissolve.

In this example from the life sciences industry, scientists from Sanofi used BIOVIA Materials Studio to model the effect various excipients had on the autoxidation propensity of an active pharmaceutical ingredient at the atomistic level. By modeling these experiments in silico, scientists were able to more quickly optimize the final formulation, cutting six months off their overall R&D cycle.
