This white paper presents an overview of the ISA-95 standard and how it is intended to simplify manufacturing operations-to-enterprise integration. The standard for ISA-95 serves as a baseline, yet other considerations must be considered when looking at plant-to-enterprise integration. The impact of non-traditional business and manufacturing processes in the emerging world of smart manufacturing, industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) all have influence on today’s manufacturing and must be considered. While ISA-95 is a good foundation, it is not enough to accomplish true plant-to-enterprise integration alone. Concepts missing from the standard will be presented, which when coupled with ISA-95, can present a strong foundation for global, enterprise-wide integration across global manufacturing operations to corporate applications.
